In Japan, unfortunately there is no translation for this book, which is part of the reason why I have started working. In thevery near future my translation of Ravelstein in Japanese will be published. This time, I'd like to present a partial interpretation from page 1 through 16 of the first edition of Bellow's. The protagonist, Abe Ravelstein, is based on Prof. Allan Bloom, Bellow's best friend and colleague at the University of Chicago, and author of The Closing of the American Mind. Bloom's Japanese version had sold 50,000 copies in Japan.},
