User-friendly interfaces, multi-lingual soft-ware, and free applications have made it so that virtually anyone who can read and write can become an online author and publisher. This paper highlights the importance of implementing technology to meet the needs of the next generation of students, introduces the use of blogs as an educational tool, and comments on the implementation of web-based collaborations at a Japanese university. Blogging can be used to create a virtual community to complement the traditional brick and mortar educational setting. To support this assertion, presented below is a discussion of blogs created by English language learners at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture (SUAC) to foster collegiality, exchange ideas and post coursework.
