While many universities that send students to participate in this Japanese English MUN (JEMUN) have dedicated courses to prepare them for the event, SUAC does not. Therefore, teachers and students are required to prepare for the event on their own time outside of a regular course. This paper will illustrate the methods, primarily extensive simulation and role-play, teachers use to prepare SUAC students for JEMUN. Then, the paper will describe the results of a qualitative study that investigated student impressions of, and learning at, JEMUN. This research was undertaken primarily to determine the positives and negatives of the overall experience. An ancillary goal was to determine if the simulation and role-play techniques were seen as effective by students in preparing them for JEMUN. Results suggest that, despite significant challenges, the overall experience of JEMUN has indeed been positive for students.
