Although it’s a well-known fact that the Army used a French bugle calls before December 1885, little is known about further details. But it become clear that what kind of calls existed at those days, because three handwritten notes for bugle call, two notes with no title from Yasukuni Kaikou Bunko collection, and Rappa Kicho (Bugle note) written by a bugler at Nagoya, were found within recent years.\nWe can confirm that the about 70 bugle calls for daily routine, salute or drill were derived from the French bugle calls; ‘Kisyo’ : «Le Réveil», 'Reishiki' : «Aux champs» etc. On the other hand, about 30 calls (refrain) given for each organization inside the Army, and ‘Yasukuni Jinja Sanpaisiki’ for ceremony were presumably composed in Japan. A long bugle march was also arranged in Japan.
