Following the model developed by Fukuoka (2000), the effects of entering a university, including the mental health conditions of students, were sampled in 247 new university student participants at three months and nine months after entrance. Analysis of data sampled at three months indicated that support by friends is effective in preventing the motivational decline of new students for studying and living activities, through improving self-fulfilling achievement motivation. It was also shown that support by family or friends are effective in maintaining their mental health.The same result was obtained from data sampled from 127 participants of the original sample at nine months after admission.
