Provided that the most Japanese share the value of going to schools as obvious, my research attempts in particular to clarify “the significance of practicing homeschooling”.\nHomeschooling is one of the educational methods that is permitted by law in many countries, for example the United States, England, etc. Homeschooling is an educational method which parents educate their children at home instead of sending them to schools. Styles of homeschooling depend on households. Homeschooling has a low recognition and few academic papers exist on it in Japan.\nHomeschooling is related to school non-attendance in Japan. My research revealed that there are many parents who chose to homeschool because their children do not want to or cannot attend schools. However, few who practice homeschooling think that their home is a shelter to escape from schools. Most of them positively recognize homeschooling as \"one of educational options equivalent to or better than schools\" and their attitude toward homeschooling is becoming positive in the process of homeschooling their children.\nMany Japanese parents who practice homeschooling express their agreement with Ivan Illich’s theory of “schooling” of education.
