The design and location of the bench were determined by the staff and students of the faculty. Bench designs were submitted through an intra-faculty competition. The parameters of the bench were that it would be classified as an item of universal design and that the main materials for construction be timber from forest thinning such as Japanese cedar or cypress. The students themselves managed the project and teachers offered guidance on design issues. Procuring and preparing the timber was conducted with the kind cooperation of the Forestry Association of Tenryu City. The project produced a total of 20 benches of 15 different designs that were dotted around the event space. As the project involved an exhibition, the event itself allowed the participants to tackle the problems of practical design within the boundaries of the campus. Moreover, the project allowed participants to experience the practical aspects of design and manufacture inaccessible in purely academic terms.}, pages = {85--92}, title = {浜名湖花博ユニバーサルデザインベンチプロジェクト}, volume = {5}, year = {2005}, yomi = {サコ, ヒデキ and クロダ, コウジ} }
